Do the Energies of our Loved Ones in Spirit Remain within Objects They Owned or within Photographs?

Psychometry, which is the ability to retrieve information about beings and events through the touching of an object, can be performed by Spirit Mediums, who communicate soul-to-soul with beings in spirit. The ability works through the energy stored within an object by the being who used it, whether living or deceased.

A World of Energy

Everything in existence is comprised of energy. As we go through our daily lives, we encounter the energies of others and emit our own. The transference of energy from person-to-person can occur easily within certain circumstances, such as when we are emotionally moved by a theatrical performance or concert, when we are sharing a joyful moment with family or friends, or when we are experiencing a situation which causes negative emotions to emerge. Energy transference can also occur from people to objects and objects to people. For example, when you enter a particular building, such as a home or workplace, there is a vibe or overall feeling you can receive about the premises. This is coming from energy stored in the objects and location from the people who occupied the space in the past or the present. Energy transfers also occur with objects kept in very close proximity to a person or animal. Jewelry, watches, glasses, cellphones, well-used furniture (e.g., favorite chair or bed), pet collars, pet beds, and pet toys usually maintain strong storage of the energy of a being because they are kept close to the body. More mundane objects, such as checkbooks, cologne or perfume bottles, or wall calendars, do not contain a lot of stored energy because even though they were used often, they were not in repetitive close contact with the person or animal.

How Psychometry Works

When a spirit medium touches or holds an object with the specific intention of retrieving information about a person or pet, they are using their extrasensory senses to tap into the energies stored within the object. When doing this with an object which belongs to a person or animal who is deceased, they can also connect with the soul of the being to receive communications. The process starts with the retrieval of information stored within the object which can reveal scenes, emotions, and events from the past. They then ask the being in spirit who is connected to the object if they would like to share communications with the person who provided the object. If they do decide to step up to communicate, which most of the time they do, even more information is transmitted from the being in spirit about their life, including but not limited to, who they were in life, activities they participated in, memories of events, how they passed, and much more. Once the connection is established with the person or animal in spirit, and the person or recipient of the reading who brought the object to the spirit medium confirms or validates the identity of the deceased loved one, then the spirit medium asks the being in spirit what messages they would like to share. The messages are transmitted in the same way the information from the past was sent, which includes the use of all the extrasensory senses of clear seeing, feeling, hearing, tasting, smelling, and knowing.

Cleansing of Energy from Objects or Locations

There are cases in which locations and objects can store a tremendous amount of negative energies from emotionally charged events or troubling circumstances, such as violent encounters or people who experienced great distress or despair. The objects and locations can be cleansed of these energies in a variety of ways; however, at the same time, it can also remove important historical information which can provide valuable insights into events from the past. The information, if cleansed, can sometimes be retrieved but it is much more challenging to do so because the spirit medium would need to dig below the layer of cleansing and reach out in spirit to those who were affected by the tragedies to piece together the circumstances. One of the most effective ways to cleanse an object or location of negative or unwanted energies is to use energy healing, such as Reiki. There are other spiritual or ceremonial actions which can be taken to cleanse a space, including calling upon ancestors, spirit guides, or Archangels. The process can differ across the world depending upon the cultural norms and practices of the location.

Photographs

The process of using photographs to connect with a person or animal in spirit differs from psychometry because it does not involve the retrieval of energy or information from an object. It is a method for spirit mediums to connect with a specific loved one in spirit for a recipient in which the spirit medium requests the presence of the person or animal in the photograph to see if they would like to share communications. Our energies or pieces of our souls are not trapped or contained in the photograph in any way. They are a tool that can be used to create a connection between the spirit medium, the loved one in spirit, and the recipient of a reading.

Are Psychometry or Photographs Necessary to Connect with Loved Ones in Spirit?

Spirit Mediums do not need objects or photographs to communicate with loved ones in spirit. Those in spirit will come forward on their own to communicate during a reading because they orchestrated the events which brough the spirit medium and recipient together. The use of objects or photos can be employed as tools to assist with a direct connection with a specific loved one in spirit; however, they are not required or necessary.

Ghosts and Spirits – Should They be Feared or Embraced?

Ghosts and spirits have a job. It is not, as many believe, to frighten or harm us, but rather to remind us that there is more to this universe than our small earthly world. Experiences with ghosts and spirits are one of the methods utilized by our Heavenly Support Teams to expand our thoughts beyond the mundane on earth to that which exists beyond the ordinary experiences we have each day.

Fears Fuel the Imagination

Some people are afraid of the unknown and automatically express fear at experiencing anything out of the ordinary. That fear multiplies and imaginations go wild to the point where people think ghosts are coming after them with the intent to do harm. Allowing your fears to overtake you has the potential to escalate and amplify them. Also, when we are taken by surprise, our survival instincts kick in, shooting adrenaline throughout our bodies. The quick influx of adrenaline triggers an alert throughout our systems for potential dangers. This does not mean that true dangers exist, though. It is more of a startle reflex in which all of the senses are heightened, meaning that anything we see, such as a flash of light, or hear, such as a twig breaking, are amplified. When fear takes over, these experiences can seem ominous.

Mischievous But Not Harmful

Spirits can be mischievous, especially if they liked having fun when they were alive on earth. Just as God uses the soul evolvement of the living to fulfill soul contracts, God also employs those in spirit who are on different levels of soul evolvement to help those on earth. For instance, a friend of mine in spirit likes to “borrow” objects from my house, only to return them two weeks later in the vicinity in which they disappeared. My friend’s mischievous fun is characteristic of his personality and his antics taught me valuable lessons about objects transported between dimensions. In addition to borrowing objects, spirits can utilize energy to move items, pipe scents into the air, blink lights, and freeze up electronic objects like cellphones, your cable box, and more.  At times, spirits like to revisit places that were important to their lives – whether they were positive or negative experiences. Deep emotional connections with people, places, and objects are what attract spirits to particular locations. They love to connect with us and communicate their histories or messages of import.

Powerful Illusions

It is very important to note that I have never encountered any being in spirit who was intent on harming me. While beings in spirit employ interesting tactics for capturing my attention, they have never brought me harm. To me reports of demons and demonic encounters are tricks of the mind based on emotional fears of the unknown. One of the topics I write about in my book, How Have You Loved?, is how fear can create powerful illusions that seem real. We can bring fearful thoughts to life if we give them power. For instance, when visiting a Halloween hayride or haunted house, people can become truly frightened by the actors, props, and scenery, even though they know it is all an illusion. The same is true when people are experiencing unexplained phenomenon. The first thoughts may be that “demons” must be present. TV shows and movies have added a lot of confusion and misinformation about how beings in spirit are perceived because they play into the fear factor for sensationalism. More often than not, it is often our loved ones in spirit who are there to help us with their love and support.

Energetic Impressions

When people report seeing spirits or ghosts performing the same actions over and over again, it is often left over energy that plays like a recording. There is no interaction with this type of ghost because it is not the actual spirit but something akin to a hologram. This type of phenomena occurs in locations where this being experienced strong emotional reactions to events. An energetic impression of what they were doing at the time of the event is left behind, which can sometimes be seen, felt, or heard by those whose who are sensitive to extrasensory energies.

What You Can Do When You Encounter a Spirit

When you are experiencing other-worldly visits, my best advice is for you to relax. It is most likely one of your loved ones in spirit that is stopping by to say hello. If you are visiting a historic location or see people in spirit you do not recognize, such as a man, woman or child dressed in period clothing, I recommend relaxing and viewing the situation from a place of curiosity and compassion. Your ability to see, feel, hear, taste or smell communications from spirits your openness to their light, love, and helpful energies.

If you do not wish to communicate with spirits, you can let them know that by thinking it or saying it out loud. There is no need to raise your voice or be rude. Simply state it in a matter of fact way and ask them to leave you alone. If you feel the need for extra assistance, call on Archangel Michael to protect you and remove them from your presence. Most of the time, though, spirits want to communicate a message that will help you or someone else. If you are having experiences with spirit often, or would like to know more about how spirits communicate, I highly recommend that you learn about it. There are many dependable resources from professional spirit mediums that will help you to understand more about the world of spirit. You can increase your knowledge through books, classes, and workshops.

Much can be Learned from Spirits

From the ancient peoples of the past to the people of today, there has been a cultural connection with the world of spirits. The fascination people have with ghosts and spirits is no mistake. It is a fascinating way of keeping our minds open to that which exists beyond life on earth. It also reminds us of our history, including people’s stories and experiences on earth, as their presents gets people talking and thinking on a soul level.  There is no coincidence in the uptick of interest in ghosts and other-worldly beings. It represents the pivotal awakening of the world to spiritual matters. Not everyone will wake up to the gifts within them in this lifetime; however, more and more people will be guided toward a spiritual path in an effort to bring more light and love to this planet. This movement toward the spiritual aspects of our existence has the potential to usher in more peace on earth through personal contentment, knowledge, and universal understanding.

Much can be learned from ghosts and spirits. They hold information from the past, the present, and the future, as well as information about life after death and the universe. There is no need to fear them, as they are in our midst to teach us about our souls, as well as all that exists beyond life on earth. Namaste!

Why Certain Locations Have More Paranormal Activity Than Others

Paranormal activity is a fascinating phenomenon which occurs across the globe. Otherwise unexplainable instances of objects moving or disappearing and reappearing in strange places, electronics turning on or off by themselves, the sound of laughter or footsteps with no human being in sight, and the feeling of a presence or touch when no human is present, are all examples of paranormal activity. Certain locations have more activity than others. They do not have to have strong ties to historical events for activity to be strong. Where the activity occurs and why depends upon many factors. The most important underlying factors are the strength of the emotions experienced in life, both positive and negative, by the people in spirit who are visiting the location or who have left an imprint of energy from past events.

Ghosts Versus Spirits

When people report seeing the same being in spirit, a person or animal, performing the same repetitive action, this is referred to as a ghost. It is an imprint of energy left behind by a person or animal that is much like a hologram. It is not an active being in spirit. Active spirits are the souls of beings in energy form. They can visit us here on Earth and they can manipulate energy on this dimension to alert us of their presence, often referred to as signs or paranormal activity. They employ all the senses when letting us know when they are around, including but not limited to, placing scents in the air, moving objects, changing the temperature in a space, providing a feeling of their presence, projecting music or their voice for us to hear, producing the smell and taste of a favorite food, and placing visual objects in our path that are reminders of them. For spirit mediums, the experience is heightened and fine-tuned with incredible details that can also be experienced using the extrasensory senses.

Examples of Paranormal Activity

To help you to better understand what paranormal activity consists of, here are some examples:

  • Unexplained electrical disturbances – phones, televisions lights, computers, ceiling fans, appliances, car windows and radios acting up
  • Objects or items moved – doors opening/closing, pictures tilted or knocked over or off walls, items (especially jewelry) missing and returned in strange places
  • Seemingly random or coincidental presence of feathers, coins, ladybugs, hummingbirds, butterflies, cardinals
  • Scents in the air which do not belong – perfume, cigarette or pipe smoke, food cooking
  • The strong feeling of a presence when no human or animal presence is near
  • Shadow people or flashes of a presence seen out of the corner of the eye
  • Orbs of energy – seen in person or in photographs or videos
  • Items appearing out of nowhere
  • Sounds without a known source – footsteps, creaking stairs, knock on a wall or door, a voice in your ear, music playing

Reasons for Increased Paranormal Activity

Emotionally Powerful Events

When people refer to paranormal activity, they often refer to areas in which there have been powerful negative events, such as those that occurred on battlefields, murder and suicide scenes, prisons and prisoner encampments, and abolished mental health institutions and old hospitals. All these locations usually have strong imprints of energy left behind by those who suffered or experienced traumatic events. This is because of the harrowing emotional toll experienced by the souls. Mediums can pick up on the information contained within the energy imprints by accessing the energies left behind from the past, as well as by communicating directly with those in spirit who lived through the tribulations. Locations that have had powerful peaceful or joyful events can also exhibit paranormal activity or energies. The experiences of history can be picked up on by spirit mediums who used their gifts to learn about the past through communication with active spirits. The energies in a place where momentous positive events occurred often emit a feeling of peace immediately upon entering the space. The signs from spirits in these locations are also much more serene and uplifting.

Loved Ones in Spirit Visiting

While events from history, both positive and negative, play an important role as to why certain locations have more active spirits exhibiting paranormal activity, it is not the only factor which determines the level of activity. This is because spirits are not limited to earthly locations. They can visit anywhere and often do, especially loved ones in spirit connected with people on Earth through the relationships they had with them while living. Loved ones in spirit love to visit their loved ones on Earth. It is their strong connection with those on earth which draws them to visit to see how everyone is doing, to share their love and support, and to make their presence known through signs, as well as to attempt to get a message through to provide guidance or navigation. Much of the paranormal activity people experience in their homes, workplaces, vehicles, and more comes from personal loved ones in spirit. Activity can be strongest immediately following the passing of a loved one, when they are trying to get an important message through, a week or two before or after visiting a spirit medium, and when there is a soul who did not immediately cross over into Heaven. In the case of loved ones in spirit visiting from the Other Side, there is usually a feeling of upliftment accompanying their presence. When it is a soul who needs help with their crossing, there is a heavy feeling in the location. This is because they have not yet fully let go of their earthly presence and are frustrated about their situation. People sometimes refer to the activity exhibited by souls who have not crossed as poltergeists. This is because these upset souls are trying everything they can to get the attention of the living to help them, such as slamming doors and breaking several items. They are not mad at the living. They need assistance, which is best provided by a professional spirit medium trained in helping temporarily lost souls in their transition to Heaven.

The Presence of a Spirit Medium or Someone Sensitive to the Energies from the Other Side

When there is a spirit medium or someone gifted with extrasensory perception or is sensitive to the energies from the Other Side, paranormal activity tends to increase. The beings in spirit are aware that the gifted individual is also aware of their presence. When encountering someone who can communicate directly with them, they become excited, which is why the paranormal activity increases.

No Fear

When investigating various locations, there is no fear of who or what I will encounter. I enter the situations with an open mind, heart, and soul with the mindset of respectfully gathering information about history and the people or animals who are present in an objective way. The connection of spirit communication is rooted in love, not fear, and approaching these situations with the mindset I described allows for open communication across dimensions.

What it Means When a Space is Cleansed of Energies

Over time, negative or unwanted energies can accumulate in a space. This can be due to powerful negative events or people who consistently behave in negative ways. A location can be cleansed of residual energies by professional spirit mediums and healers. When a cleansing of energy is performed, negative and unwanted energies are removed and replaced with positive, peaceful energy. In essence, the space is healed and cleansed, creating a welcoming space for people and animals and a new beginning for the location. Immediately upon entering a location, I can sense whether the space has been energetically cleansed. The history of the location and the people in spirit are still connected to the space; however, it takes a few extra moments to use my gifts to probe below the cleansed layer to connect with the information which exists beyond the healed atmosphere.

Why Our Connection with the Other Side Matters

Our connection with the Other Side is an integral part of our world. As human beings on a spiritual journey, part of our purpose is to seek out our reasons for being. By being connected to the Other Side and actively communicating with beings in spirit, we can be the recipients of information about what exists beyond life on earth, as well as the true meaning of our existence. The benefits go beyond knowing that we continue to exist after life on earth. They help us to tap into the energies and knowledge of the universe to assist humankind.

Exploring Paranormal Energies and History at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA

A few years ago, a friend of mine asked me if I would like to visit the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The penitentiary was in operation for 142 years starting in the 1800s and closing in the 1970s. While it was in operation, thousands of inmates inhabited its cell blocks for crimes as minor as petty larceny and as major as multiple murders. After it closed in the 1970s, it lay abandoned for years. While actively in operation, it was designated as an official historical site and, because of that, it retained a protected status. In the 1980s, the penitentiary was reopened for tours. Over the past few decades, restoration of the site has been underway. Many people claim that it is haunted by the souls of those who were imprisoned there. Because I was curious about the energies that I would pick up on there, as well as the spirits of those who were incarcerated at this historic institution, I agreed to take a day trip and open myself up to a unique way of learning about people of the past.

Why Explore the Darker Side of Human Nature?

Given that I would be connecting in spirit with some of the country’s most nefarious criminals, some people may question why I would voluntarily expose myself to the inevitable scenes of violence, negative feelings, troubled personalities, and more that the men and women of the past would send me. My answer to this is simple: I believe in learning from every experience in life. Both positive and negative experiences have a lot to teach us. As a spirit medium, I am exposed to many cathartic experiences that I do not necessarily want to see, feel, or hear; however, it is only through research and experiences with beings from all walks of life that I can learn about, and strive to understand, the depth of human nature.

Exploring the Past through Mediumship

Walking into the castle-like fortress, I opened up to spirit in order to reach back into the past to see what it was like for prisoners who were incarcerated there. I mentally sent the intention to my spirit guides to focus on the earliest days of the penitentiary. Immediately, I picked up on the energies of the people who were initially housed in the cells. Extreme loneliness, depression, and even madness pervaded the souls while in residence. They showed me how each of them was confined to an individual cell with no contact with human beings, other than limited communication with the guards and the chaplain. Due to the lack of human contact, they often spoke out loud to themselves and suffered from hallucinations. Even though their experiences were difficult, I was able to receive the information in an objective way, as though I was observing it as a scientist or doctor would when reviewing cases. They showed me their penitence in solitary confinement did not reform them, but rather depleted them of their humanness and their ability to relate to others. Reality became a blur. They no longer knew what was real or what was a figment of their imagination. Paranoia and desperation clawed at their souls. It did not matter whether they committed petty crimes or the more serious crime of murder, each one of them was kept in solitary confinement for years at a time. Some of them adjusted, but most of them suffered from delusions and deep depression.

Reform through Solitary Penitence – A Revolutionary Idea

When the facility opened, the founders thought that the best way to reform convicted felons was penitence in solitude. The idea was that this would give the person time to think about their crimes and search for forgiveness from God. This revolutionary idea was conceived by the Quakers as an answer to the problems that emerged from keeping prisoners in one holding cell together. In the past, prisoners who congregated together usually emerged from prison with an in-depth education in crime. However, before the construction of the final cellblocks from the original design was completed, the architecture was altered to include a second story. The number of people incarcerated had greatly increased, and it was not long before solitary confinement was no longer possible.

Cellblock Five

Eastern State Penitentiary is a unique structure. It has a round rotunda in the center of the building from which the main cellblocks spread outwards, making it look like a large asterisk from an aerial view. When standing in the center, you can see down the corridors of each of the main cellblocks. The design was created to allow guards to see all the wards from the center rotunda. It was used as a model for many penitentiaries throughout the world. When I glanced toward cellblock five, I picked up on strong negative energies. I kept receiving the impression that a large riot originated on that cellblock, possibly the last riot that took place in 1961. There was a lot of violence I was picking up on and mistreatment of the inmates, which lead to the riot. I performed some research on this and have not yet uncovered whether the last major riot started there.

Not Ghosts or Lost Souls

There was an incredible amount of much energy and information I was picking up from the spirits who were sharing information with me about their stay at the penitentiary. All the souls I communicated with that day had crossed over into Heaven. It is important to note that there are levels to Heaven. The younger the soul, meaning they have not reincarnated many times and operate from a place of fear, greed, and selfishness, the lower the level. The older the soul who has reincarnated many times and who operates from a place of love, the higher the level. Souls on lower levels cannot visit the higher levels; however, souls on higher levels can visit the lower ones. The souls I was communicating with were not ghosts or souls lost or stuck in purgatory, nor were they in “hell.” Hell is a concept designed to instill fear as a way of preventing negative behavior on Earth. The demeanor of these souls was calm as they conveyed the stories of their lives. I had no fear at all that they would attempt to harm me. This was an exchange of information in which I was learning about what happened to them while incarcerated, as well as what happened to them after they passed. Energetically, they felt lighter than those who have not crossed over into Heaven. Souls who are temporarily stuck between Heaven and Earth feel energetically heavy due to their unresolved sadness and frustration. They do eventually cross over to receive healing, and it is often the angels who help guide them back to Heaven’s gateway.

Death Row Stories from the Other Side

The most interesting experience I had was on Death Row. As soon as I walked in, I felt several souls rush forward wanting to communicate with me. I sensed that some of them were maniacal or deranged during their lifetimes on Earth. Several had suffered from acute mental illness that led to an extreme lack of empathy in their lifetimes for their victims. I asked one man to step forward to tell me his story. He sent me lightning-quick flashes of images of him committing his crimes accompanied by three words: murder, rape, molestation. I could smell the smoke of his cigarettes in the air and sense that he was about 5’10” or 5’11”. He was decidedly thin with pock-marked skin, and he walked in a laidback manner in which he slightly leaned back making his legs and hips move forward before the rest of him. He was remorseful. In fact, all of them were. I did not realize it at first, but as soon as I had set foot on death row and reached out to those in spirit, my head bent down to the point where I was looking at the floor. A feeling of shame was transmitted through my gifts of mediumship from them. My friend who was with me commented on how my head remained in that position the entire time I was in the cellblock. It is interesting to note that the man in spirit told me that all the men who were on death row at the penitentiary belonged there, not just for the crimes they were convicted of, but also for the ones they got away with.

Healing in Heaven

Despite what people think, all souls have the option to go to Heaven and receive healing. God is the ultimate forgiver, and when people commit heinous crimes on Earth, they are given the opportunity to heal and do better next time. We experience many lifetimes to learn and grow as souls. During our life reviews, we see and experience the effect of our actions on others. This is a learning experience to show us what we did well and what we need to work on to evolve. Souls that behave in a negative fashion are usually very young souls that are living from a place of fear rather than love. That fear drives them to perform acts that harm themselves and others. Perhaps the environment in which they are raised, as well as their mental stability, impact their behaviors. That is not to say that the parents are to blame. There could be many extenuating factors present in society that drives someone to choose a life of crime. We are all in control of our choices, though, and when people are mentally unstable or are continually exposed to negative circumstances, sometimes people choose to take the low road or the road that gets them to where they want to be regardless of the consequences. Judgments such as that often have severe consequences not only for the people who are their victims, but also for the perpetrator because crimes committed against others are crimes committed against themselves.

Spiritual Explorations Lead to Enlightenment

When I originally agreed to the exploratory field trip to Eastern State Penitentiary, I was not sure what I would experience or be shown by those in spirit. I was not concerned about demons, negative entities, or possession, because these are human concepts born out of fear. I knew that I would see, feel, and hear information through my spiritual connection that would be unpleasant and, at times, horrific. I also knew I could turn off the connection at any time. If I felt I needed extra assistance, I could always call on God or Archangel Michael to help extricate me from a negative spiritual situation. I rest comfortably in the knowledge that I am safe and loved by God and the Angels. I know that fear has the power to create illusions that seem very real. One of our tasks on Earth is to learn how to manage the emotions that are based in fear to navigate past them to the truth. Through my spiritual connections and mediumship abilities, I have learned that all of us are connected to one another through the most powerful energy in the universe love. All the work I do originates from love, as does my connection to every being. We are all spiritual beings on a human journey of the soul. Moreover, we are learning lessons that enable us to grow and evolve in the light and love from which we were created. Using my gifts of mediumship in this way can provide amazing insights into human nature and history, the journey of our souls, and what exists beyond life on Earth. It is my mission to bring forth as much information and knowledge as I can in this lifetime to help as many people as possible to have a more thorough understanding of our existence.

Recently, a friend of mine asked me if I would like to visit the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The penitentiary was in operation for 142 years, and closed in the 1970s. While it was in operation, thousands of inmates inhabited its cell blocks for crimes as minor as petty larceny and as major as multiple murders. After it closed in the 1970s, it lay abandoned for years. While actively in operation, it was designated as an official historical site and, because of that, it retained a protected status. In the 1980s, the penitentiary was reopened for tours. Over the past few decades, restoration of the site has been underway. Many people claim that it is haunted by the souls of those who were imprisoned there. Because I was curious about the energies that I would pick up on there, as well as the spirits of those who had the misfortune of being incarcerated at this historic institution, I agreed to take a day trip and open myself up to a unique way of learning about people of the past.

Why Explore the Darker Side?
Given that I would be connecting in spirit with some of the country’s most nefarious criminals, some people may question why I would voluntarily expose myself to the inevitable scenes of violence, negative feelings, troubled personalities, and more that the men and women of the past would send me. My answer to this is simple: I believe in learning from every experience in life. Both positive and negative experiences have a lot to teach us. As a spirit medium, I am exposed to many cathartic experiences that I do not necessarily want to see, feel, or hear; however, it is only through research and experiences with beings from all walks of life that I can learn about, and strive to understand, the depth of human nature.

Exploring the Past through Mediumship
Walking into the castle-like fortress, I opened up to spirit in order to reach back into the past to see what it was like for prisoners who were incarcerated there. I mentally sent the intention to my spirit guides to focus on the earliest days of the penitentiary. Immediately, I picked up on the energies of the people who were initially housed in the cells. Extreme loneliness, depression, and even madness pervaded the souls while in residence. Each one was confined to an individual cell with no contact with human beings, other than limited communication with the guards and the chaplain. Due to the lack of human contact, they often spoke out loud to themselves and suffered from hallucinations. Solitary confinement did not reform them; it depleted them of their humanness and their ability to relate to others. Reality became a blur. They no longer knew what was real or what was a figment of their imagination. Paranoia and desperation clawed at their souls. It did not matter whether they committed petty crimes or the more serious crime of murder…each one of them was kept in solitary confinement for years at a time. Some of them adjusted, but most of them suffered from delusions and depression.

Reform through Solitary Penitence – A Revolutionary Idea
When the facility opened in the 1800s, the founders thought that the best way to reform convicted felons was penitence in solitude. The idea was that this would give the person time to think about their crimes and search for forgiveness from God. This revolutionary idea was conceived as an answer to the problems that had emerged from keeping prisoners in one holding cell together. In the past, prisoners who congregated together usually emerged from prison with quite an education in crime. However, before the construction of the final cellblocks from the original design was completed, the architecture was altered to include a second story. The number of people incarcerated had greatly increased, and it was not long before solitary confinement was no longer possible.

Cellblock Five
Eastern State Penitentiary is a very unique structure. It has a round rotunda in the center of the building from which the main cellblocks spread outwards, making it look like a large asterisk from an aerial view. When standing in the center, you can see down the corridors of each of the main cellblocks. When I glanced toward cellblock five, I picked up on some very strong negative energies. I believe there were two reasons for this. The first piece of information I picked up on was the unfair treatment of the men of color who were confined there. It was a segregated cellblock, and prior to the civil rights movement, the men incarcerated at the penitentiary were treated as though their lives were not as important as others. The lives of these men were devalued, and violence toward them from guards and other prisoners was often overlooked. The second piece of information I picked up on had to do with riots. I kept getting the impression that a riot originated on that cellblock, possibly the last riot that took place in 1961. I performed some research on this and have not yet uncovered whether a major riot started there.

Not Ghosts or Lost Souls
There was so much energy and information I was picking up from the spirits who were sharing information with me about their stay at the penitentiary. All of the souls I communicated with that day had crossed over into heaven. They were not ghosts or souls that were lost or stuck in purgatory, nor were they in “hell.” Hell is a concept designed to instill fear as a way of preventing negative behavior on earth. To me, hell is not a place but a state of mind that can be reached through our own actions on this plane. These souls were communicating with me from the Other Side. Their demeanors were calm as they conveyed the stories of their lives. Energetically, they felt lighter than those who have not crossed over into heaven. Souls who are temporarily stuck between heaven and earth feel energetically heavy due to their unresolved sadness and frustration. They do eventually cross over to receive healing, and it is often the angels who help guide them back to heaven’s gateway.

Death Row Stories from the Other Side

The most interesting experience I had was on Death Row. As soon as I walked in, I felt several souls rush forward wanting to communicate with me. I sensed that some of them were maniacal or deranged during their lifetimes on earth. Several had suffered from acute mental illness that led to an extreme lack of empathy in their lifetimes for their victims. I asked one man to step forward to tell me his story. He sent me lightning-quick flashes of images of him committing his crimes accompanied by three words: murder, rape, molestation. I could smell the smoke of his cigarettes in the air and sense that he was about 5’10” or 5’11”. He was decidedly thin with pock-marked skin, and he walked in a laidback manner in which he slightly leaned back making his legs and hips move forward before the rest of him. He was remorseful. In fact, all of them were. I did not realize it at first, but as soon as I had set foot on death row and reached out to those in spirit, my head bent down to the point where I was looking at the floor. A feeling of shame was transmitted through the link. My friend who was with me commented on how my head remained in that position the entire time I was in the cellblock. It is interesting to note that the man in spirit told me that all of the men who were on death row at the penitentiary belonged there, not just for the crimes they were convicted of, but also for the ones they got away with.

Healing in Heaven
Despite what people think, all souls have the option to go to heaven and receive healing. God is the ultimate forgiver, and when people commit heinous crimes on earth, they are given the opportunity to heal and do better the next time. Souls that behave in such a negative fashion are usually very young souls that are living from a place of fear rather than love. That fear drives them to perform acts that harm themselves and others. Perhaps the environment in which they are raised, as well as their mental stability, impact their behaviors. That is not to say that the parents are to blame. There could be many extenuating factors present in society that drives someone to choose a life of crime.
