How to Make the Most of Your Spiritual Reading

Peace Rose A spirit medium reading is a deep spiritual connection with Heaven in which communications from loved ones in spirit come through to bring healing of the soul, love, closure, reassurance, insights into current and future events, life guidance, glimpses of what they are doing in Heaven and who they are with, how and when they visit loved ones on Earth, signs they send, and much more. It is a sacred exchange in which they bring insight from a higher perspective to help you and those you love on a soul level. It should be approached with respect for the complex spiritual process, as well as for the divine insights which go well beyond our limited view of the world and our existence.

Knowing More About You Than You Realize

Loved ones in spirit know more about your life path than you do. This is because they see events and situations from a higher perspective. They work closely with the Archangels and God and are fully aware of past and current events. In addition, they have access to your akashic records which contain the soul lessons and plans for your life, as well as all that was, is, and will be for you and those you love on Earth. These are some of the many reasons that when sitting for a reading to receive divine communications from them, it is important to remain open to how they come through, as well as the messages they would like to convey.

Reasons for Why They Are Coming Through a Certain Way and the Messages They are Bringing

When loved ones in spirit are coming through to communicate, they know their time is limited to deliver what needs to be shared. Because of this, they bring through specific information from their life or yours which can be packed with multiple meanings and messages within the messages. This information may be surprising at first because it may not match your preconceived notions of what they would bring. For instance, there can be a seemingly mundane reference to an event which recently occurred. When they are bringing that through, they are indicating not only their awareness of the event, but also that they were there with you as a witness in spirit. They are trying to tell you they are there not only for the important events, but also the less significant ones. As to why it is a certain loved one coming through, there are always reasons for that. Often, the loved one in spirit experienced events or situations similar to ones you are going through at the time of your reading, and they want to help you with their expertise. They know who you want to hear from. Often, that loved one often comes through; however, there may be others who can provide insights into your life or into the lives of those you love, and the information must come from them.

How Recipients of a Reading Can Unknowingly Block Communications from Heaven

When sitting for a reading, it is important to remain open to who comes through, how they come through, and what they want to share. By having preconceived notions or focusing on trying to get your loved ones in spirit to say what you want them to say, creates a block to communications. Try to think of it this way. If someone wants to tell you something important but you only want to hear what you want to hear, that person will recognize this and stop trying to communicate with you. They have something else they want to share, but you are not open and they know it. This is why I tell people to keep an open mind. It gives your loved ones in spirit the freedom to share messages about their existence and your life. Skepticism, deep grief, bias, preconceived notions about how they will come through and what they want to share, demands for specific information that you already know about to prove it is them, and only claiming them if they give you a secret word all get in the way of the free flowing of the information from your loved ones in spirit. You do not command them and neither does a spirit medium. If they know you are going into your reading with any of those issues in your mind, they can and do stop the communications until you open your heart. It is like a battle of wills. They will not bring strong and clear information until you are open to what they want to bring. I have seen this occur many times in readings in which someone was close-minded and only wanted to hear what they wanted to hear or would not claim a loved one because they thought they would come through in a certain way. Deep grief can sometimes be the cause of this as can skepticism. When this occurs, the information becomes hard to gather from the loved one in spirit. For the spirit medium, it feels like trying to repeatedly bash through a wall that is blocking communications from those in Heaven. When I recognize the issue, I try to explain to recipients what is occurring and why. Often, they state that they are open and may think they are; however, if the block is still there, they are still not releasing their anger, grief, skepticism, preconceived notions, etc., in order to allow themselves to fully open themselves to the communications their loved ones in spirit want to bring through. If they do release the block they are putting up, the communications start flowing like a fully opened faucet. It is an amazing difference when this occurs. Here are some examples of closed behaviors or mindsets and why they place blocks to communications from the Other Side:

Only Wanting to Hear from One Specific Loved One in Spirit

We have all been in a place in which we would like to hear from a specific loved one in spirit. This could be due to the closeness of your relationship, that they recently passed, or that they passed in a way that left questions as to whether they are in Heaven or are doing well in Heaven. Who comes through during a reading is as important as the messages they bring, and the messages they bring can only be brought by them. For instance, if you focus solely on hearing from your mother in spirit, you may miss out on recognizing and claiming your grandmother who also lost her mother at a young age and is coming through to help you with the healing process through her own experiences in life. Does this mean your mother will not come through? No, it does not mean that. It means that your grandmother needed to come through first to help bring healing to your life. When recipients resist or push back on this, it wastes precious time that could be used to allow your mother to come through. Another reason why your grandmother may come through first is because your mother was someone who would put others before herself. It is your mother’s subtle way of showing her personality traits. There are countless reasons why certain loved ones come through and in what order. By remaining open to whomever and whatever they bring, you give the loved ones in spirit the space they need to bring through the divine communications from a higher perspective.

Demanding to Hear from Only One Specific Loved One in Spirit

Demanding anything from anyone, alive or deceased, rarely brings the results you are looking for in any situation. Spirit mediums do not control or command loved ones in spirit. They are free souls with free will who decide when and how they want to come through. By demanding, not asking, a specific loved one to come through, you are blocking communications from loved ones in spirit who need to come through. It also puts the spirit medium in a position in which they must continually ask loved ones in spirit who are stepping up to step aside because the recipient does not want to hear from them. This wastes time and can be very frustrating for the spirit medium, the loved ones in spirit, and the recipient. Most of the time, when a loved one in spirit is ASKED to step forward, they do. Demanding is a sign that the recipient is not ready to sit for a reading. Great sadness, grief, and anger, as well as a misunderstanding of how spirit medium readings work, are often the underlying reasons for someone to demand specific loved ones in spirit to come through. If you are in a place in which your grief is overwhelming you, it is better to wait until you are in a more peaceful or accepting mindset before sitting for a reading.

Making a Pact with a Loved One in Spirit Prior to the Reading to Bring through a Certain Piece of Information

Prior to someone’s passing or right before a reading there are times when recipients attempt to plead with or make pacts with loved ones in spirit to bring through certain information to prove it is them, such as a code word, a song, or a reference to an event. For instance, the day or night before the reading the recipient may say in their mind to their best friend in spirit that they need to mention “black coffee” or “Grand Canyon” in the reading just so they really know it is them coming through. This kind of thinking displays a lack of faith in the loved one in spirit as it is a demand to try to force them to bring through information to prove themselves. When doing this, the recipient is closing themselves off from the free flow of divine information to waste time demanding to hear only what they want to hear. The recipient may also completely dismiss the loved one in spirit coming through, even though they brought many specific pieces of information which clearly defined they are the one they wanted to hear from. On an important note, loved ones in spirit may or may not give the code word or information demanded by the recipient because they have a higher purpose to bring through other information. Remember, there are reasons why they bring through information the way they do and it often contains messages within the messages. Asking why this and not that dismisses their messages they work hard to convey to help you with your life.

Thinking a Loved One in Spirit Will Come Through the Same Way Every Time

Depending upon the spirit medium or the information the loved one in spirit would like to bring through, loved ones in spirit may or may not come through in the same way as they did in a previous reading. The description they provide of themselves may change slightly, including but not limited to clothing, hair styles, personality traits, scenes from their life, and more. In this complex form of communication across dimensions, loved ones in spirit often use symbols with spirit mediums to share information. They use experiences and information familiar to the spirit medium to get their information across. Each spirit medium is different, which is why the information may come through in a slightly different way with different mediums. In addition, the loved one in spirit may need to highlight certain times in their lives to bring through a message within the message. For example, my father has come through joking and showing a photograph of himself wearing a navy blue t-shirt during a time in which he was happy. He has also come through with a feeling of sadness wearing a long sleeve red and black flannel shirt. In both instances it was him; however, he was communicating about different times in his life because the messages he shared in each reading were meant to help me with experiences in my life that he worked through on his own. There are many subtle intricacies in how loved ones in spirit communicate. There is always a meaningful reason why they are coming through in a certain way. You will be able to recognize them if you keep an open mind about how they come through and what they want to share to help you and those you love with your lives.

Having Preconceived Ideas about Messages Including Expecting or Demanding Them to Tell You About Events You Already Know About

Your loved ones in spirit are fully aware of the events taking place in your life and in the lives of those you love. When you ask them to tell you something you already know the answer to, you are demanding that they prove they know of the events you want them to acknowledge, or you are demanding they only bring through what you want to know and not what they want to share. As an example, I had a young man coming through in spirit who was showing a memory of himself as a child in a photograph. The reading was taking place over video chat and the recipient recognized the photograph as one that was sitting on a shelf a few feet from her beyond the view of the camera. The young man in spirit did this to prove he was right there in the room with the recipient as there was no way I would have known that photograph existed or that it was in the room with the recipient at that moment in time. Instead of recognizing that the young man was right there in spirit with her, the recipient kept asking if he was with her and whether he was aware of events that had taken place in her life. By showing me the photograph, he was trying to tell her that he is with her, even when she is not aware of his presence. Her demands and expectations of only wanting to hear what she wanted to hear instead of being open and accepting of what he wanted to share ate up precious time, which possibly prevented him from sharing more meaningful communications that would have brought healing to her life. As a spirit medium, I can only ask the loved one in spirit to bring through the information someone is asking about. If they decide they do not want to bring it, there is nothing I can do as I do not control them. It does not mean it is not really them or that they do not visit you in spirit. It means what you are asking for or demanding is not what they wanted to share or communicate about. Remember, they have higher purposes for information they share.

Thinking Communications from the Other Side are as Easy as Talking to Living Beings and Expecting Spirit Mediums to Know Everything

Spirit-to-spirit communication is very complex. It is not as simple as a conversation with a person on Earth. Loved ones in spirit are communicating in a telepathic way which uses all the senses of the spirit medium to transmit information in an incredibly immersive way that goes well beyond simple verbal communication. They provide images, sounds, feelings, tastes, and smells from their viewpoint as a way of providing not only identifying information for you to claim them, but also to share their messages. It can sometimes be like a cryptic shorthand in which symbols are used and messages are hidden within messages for the recipient to figure out. There are times when I need to talk through the symbols and impressions I am receiving because the loved one in spirit is sharing pieces of information that have no meaning for me but should for the recipient. By talking through it, it gives the recipient the opportunity to recognize the meaning from their loved one in spirit. Everything loved ones in spirit share has meaning. They work hard to bring through the information and messages across dimensions in this amazing way. As a spirit medium, it is my job to share every impression and piece of information, whether it has meaning to me or not. It does not have to make sense to me because I am not their loved one on Earth, nor have I lived the lives they have or been privy to their experiences on Earth or in Heaven. When loved ones in spirit share information it is on a need-to-know basis. Spirit mediums are not all-knowing or all-seeing. We are receivers of information from beings in spirit. We facilitate the process of spirit-to-spirit communication and share what we receive with recipients of a reading. We can and do ask questions of loved ones in spirit to keep the processing moving along and to attempt to get answers to inquiries by recipients of a reading; however, if the loved ones in spirit are not providing an answer to a question, a spirit medium cannot force them to answer it. When this occurs, I let the recipient know the loved one in spirit is not providing an answer to their specific question. The loved ones in spirit may not be able to answer the question because it has to do with life lessons for the recipient that they cannot interfere with or because certain events have yet to transpire that would provide a clear answer.

Being Physically Exhausted or Distracted

To get the most out of your spirit medium reading, remove distractions so that you can give your full concentration to the spiritual exchange and honor your loved ones in spirit. Turn off your phone and other electronics. Sit in a quiet space without pets, kids, or other people if possible. Do not operate machinery, such as a car. Being physically exhausted or under the influence of alcohol or drugs can also be a significant block to communications from the Other Side. This is because the ability to think clearly is impaired. A spirit medium reading is a three-way communication which requires the loved ones in spirit, the spirit medium, and the recipient to be open and receptive to the information coming through. As the recipient, being able to think and recall information is very important as you need to claim your loved ones as they come through. They may also be bringing up significant memories they want you to remember. Getting a good night’s sleep and staying sober will help keep the lines of communication clear.

How to Remain Truly Open to a Reading

To remain truly open to a reading and get the most out of the spiritual communications from beyond our world, clear your mind and heart, sit in a location without distractions, be alert and sober, and remove all expectations about who will come through, how they will come through, and the information or messages they will share. By doing so, you allow your loved ones in spirit to share the most meaningful information to help you and those you love on Earth, which can be positively life changing on many levels.

What Our Pets Do in Heaven

When our beloved pets cross over into Heaven, they are greeted by the angels and our loved ones in spirit, as well as their kin who are in Heaven. As with people in Heaven, they are provided much comfort and love and are free from all physical pain and discomfort they may have suffered from prior to their passing. During readings, in which they share information about their lives in a manner similar to people in spirit, animals often show themselves in the prime of their lives in Heaven. They share images of themselves delightfully enjoying favorite activities they were characteristically known for on Earth. Some of my favorites have been horses running and kicking up their heels in a beautiful pasture, dogs rolling around on their backs on incredibly soft spring green grass, purring cats curled up near the warmth of a lit fireplace, ferrets tunneling and playing peek-a-boo from underneath a blanket, and parrots cracking open peanuts and enjoying them. The animals often express strong feelings of love and gratitude for the life they had, as well as glimpses of their lives to bring information that can be matched to them in order to provide healing and comfort to the recipient of the reading.

With Loved Ones in Spirit

When a beloved pet makes its presence known in a reading, it is often accompanied by a human loved one in spirit. This loved one is either directly connected to the animal or is conveying the message that they are taking care of them in Heaven for the recipient of the reading. The human loved ones in spirit did not need to know this animal while on Earth. For example, I have seen grandfathers and grandmothers in spirit, who have long been in Heaven, holding a cat or dog who just crossed over that belonged to their grandchild on Earth. Our loved ones in spirit, both human and animal, are aware of the events which occur in our lives because they watch over us from Heaven. There is much comfort in knowing they are taking care of our beloved pets in spirit until the time comes when we are reunited with them in Heaven.

Visiting from Heaven

Like people in Heaven, our animals in spirit can and do visit us on Earth. You may catch a glimpse of them out of the corner of your eye, feel their presence, or hear a familiar sound they used to make in life. If you have live pets in your home, they can sense the presence of your pets and people in spirit. When your live pets are staring at the wall or start running around and playing as if someone is playing with them, it is often loved ones in spirit, both human and animal, who are visiting. There are times, too, when a live pet temporarily behaves in ways your pet in spirit behaved. They have not possessed your live pet but have temporarily used them to bring through a memory for you in order to let you know they are around and sending their love.

Jobs in Heaven for Animals

Beyond relaxing and enjoying their time in Heaven, our pets in spirit can also volunteer for jobs. For instance, they can opt to become guardian angels for their loved ones on Earth. They often work in tandem with our human loved ones in spirit and the angels who have volunteered or been assigned to us. As guardian angels, they assist with the job of watching over us and alerting the angels of situations in which we need help. Additionally, when it is time for one of our living animals to cross over into Heaven, our beloved pets in spirit are there to help them cross over and they do their best to bring us comfort from Heaven. Animals can also help bring healing and companionship to those who need it in Heaven. Not only do they bring companionship to our human loved ones in spirit, but also to people and animals newly arrived in Heaven who would benefit from their loving presence. Scenes have been shared with me of animals providing companionship and unconditional love to people and animals in spirit, especially for those who are receiving healing in the Spiritual Hospital in Heaven. When healing of heart and spirit is needed due to difficulties experienced during a lifetime, souls go to the Spiritual Hospital in which angels help the souls to work through the issues. Our beloved pets in spirit can volunteer to help these souls with their healing process.

All Animals Get Along in Heaven

In Heaven, all animals get along with one another. This is because they are in soul form, rather than in a physical form as they were on Earth. Heaven operates quite differently in that the lack of a physical body means that sustenance for that body is no longer needed. Carnivores do not need to eat meat, which means they are no longer a threat to what would have been their prey on Earth.

Reincarnation and Animals in Human Form

They meet us in Heaven and agree to come down for a lifetime with us. If there is a strong bond, animals can sometimes reincarnate again in your lifetime to join you in a different form and a slightly different way. They often exhibit similar characteristic behaviors of the original beloved pet, yet they also display behaviors that are unique to the new pet. This is because the soul has grown in Heaven which creates new characteristics. There are times when I have seen animals take on a human form in Heaven. From these viewings, it is my impression that souls can opt to live a lifetime in an animal form on Earth. The reasons for this can vary greatly; however, it is often to allow a soul to spend bonded time with another soul on Earth for a brief lifetime, instead of a longer lifetime in the form of a human soul. The roles of animals in our lives are amazing and much more than appears to be on the surface. Our beloved pets have strong connections with us, which are formed in Heaven before we are born. They are weaved into our soul contracts to help us learn important lessons for our souls while on Earth.

Reunion in Heaven

When our natural time to cross into Heaven comes, we are reunited with our beloved pets. We will see them as we know them, just as we do our human loved ones in spirit. Once we have been reunited, they can then show themselves to us in the form they have chosen in Heaven. Our beloved pets, much like our human loved ones in spirit, enjoy relaxation and favorite activities in Heaven, and can volunteer to share their love and skills with other souls, including our own. The bonds of love unite our souls and keep us connected across the cosmos through the hearts of our spirits. There are no boundaries to the love we share with all our loved ones in spirit, both human and animal.

Can Loved Ones in Spirit See Us from Heaven?

People often ask me if loved ones in spirit can see us from Heaven. Yes, they can and they often watch over us as Guardian Angels (Note: They do give us our privacy, when necessary). It is important to know that there is much more to a soul’s existence in Heaven beyond seeing events on Earth. Through the countless communications I have received from loved ones in spirit and the Angels, I have learned a great deal about our existence beyond life on Earth.

From Physical Body to the Soul’s Energy Form

Once our loved ones in spirit cross over into Heaven, their existence changes in profound ways. They are no longer hampered by the physical body they had on Earth. Any physical pain they experienced is gone as the soul in pure energy form. The soul moves forward to its next destination, Heaven, which is the home base of all souls. Even though souls are in energy form, they often choose to look like they did in life. This familiar form helps souls to transition into their new existence in Heaven in a comforting way. Once souls have acclimated to the heavenly plane, they can alter their appearance. Loved ones in spirit often show me they have opted to take the form of their younger selves at an age at which they were happy.

Guides for New Arrivals

The newly arrived souls are often paired with angelic guides and/or loved ones in spirit to help with the reorientation process. The guides teach or remind the new arrival of how they can visit loved ones on Earth, as well as how to send signs alerting those on Earth of their presence. Many people report unusual occurrences when a loved one passes, such as seeing a loved one in spirit in their dreams or even seeing them standing by their bedside in energy form around the time of their passing. In addition, they may send signs to let you know they are in Heaven. It could be a visual sign, such as the one my great aunt received when she asked her sister where she was after she passed. My great aunt was cleaning out her closet at the time and a book fell at her feet from the shelf above. The book’s title had something to do with time in Heaven. Other signs include feeling a loved one in spirit’s presence or smelling a scent that reminds you of them. There are many ways in which they will send signs, and they will utilize all your senses to do so. This is because soul-to-soul communication is a rich and complex form of communication that goes beyond verbal words to include experiences using all the senses.

Access to the Past and the Future

As for seeing events unfolding on Earth, loved ones in spirit not only have access to current events, but also to past and future events. Loved ones in spirit visit us often because they love us and want to help us. They know life on Earth is not easy. They do give us privacy during those ultra-private moments in our lives; however, your loved ones in spirit are around you much more often than you think. As for events from the past, they can retrieve and view experiences from the past from our Akashic records, which are the records of all that was, is, and will be for each soul in existence. They are our soul contracts for all our lifetimes. If loved ones in spirit need perspectives to help us with our lives, whether it is to achieve understanding from events from the past or to look into potential future events with which they can assist, they will retrieve the records with the approval of the Archangels who oversee the Hall of Records.

Still the Same Soul, but with a Higher Perspective

It is important to note the perspectives about life on Earth change after arrival in Heaven. Once loved ones in spirit experience the review of their lives, they gain a higher understanding of why events occurred the way they did. The veil that obscures knowledge of existence for them while in human form is removed, opening comprehension of the vast inner workings of our lives as human beings and our existence beyond life on Earth. Within, they are the same soul; however, they have a higher understanding and knowledge which helps them to view situations objectively, as well as grow as a soul through divine awareness. Which is why, when loved ones in spirit come through to communicate with those on this plane, they often indicate they are at peace. Because of the understanding they have attained, they no longer experience anger or upset. This is also true for the way people on Earth are handling situations since their passing. They may not like the way a loved one on Earth is behaving; however, due to their divine knowledge, they know why events are occurring in a certain way. It all has to do with lessons for our souls. They are not angry but can be saddened when someone is behaving in a manner which hurts themselves or others. The situations, though, are out of their hands. They cannot control how people behave. They can only watch over situations and hope for the best. There are times when they can step in to help from the Other Side; however, they are not allowed to interfere, especially if important lessons need to be learned.

What to Do with Belongings

As for the handling of their belongings after they pass, loved ones in spirit often convey that they would like items to be distributed in a fair way. It is unfortunate when people on Earth behave in a selfish or greedy way over the legacies left by loved ones who have crossed over. They do not like to see families torn apart by belongings or money. Even though they are aware of the lessons tied into these situations, they still hope loved ones remember it is more important to cultivate and nurture the relationships they have with one another through fair distribution, rather than hurtful actions driven by greed and selfish behaviors. Loved ones in spirit also often state they do not want loved ones on Earth to feel compelled to keep every object they ever owned because the objects are not them, they are only things which loved ones in spirit no longer need. Keeping objects of historical importance or positive memories is good, as long as they do not overload your home. During readings, I have had loved ones in spirit ask their relatives on Earth to donate that which is no longer needed to charities because they prefer their belongings to go to someone who can use them.

Heavenly Communications

All in all, our loved ones in spirit remain an important part of our lives, even though they have crossed over into Heaven. They are aware of events on Earth and do what they can to help us on our journeys here. There are many ways in which you can remain open to the communications they send, including learning how soul-to-soul communication works. While it differs from the way we communicate with each other on Earth, it is a language built into our souls which can be reawakened with knowledge and an openness to the extraordinary within the seemingly ordinary.

How Our Heavenly Support Teams Help Us

Life on Earth is an accelerated course for soul evolution. We have voluntarily opted to live a lifetime on Earth to learn lessons for the development of our souls, and the negativity we encounter speeds up the process. In Heaven, negativity does not exist. Soul development does occur there; however, the lessons are based more on the giving of service, learning about the many levels of existence, and exploring the multi-faceted methods for communicating across planes.

In our journey through life, we are not left to our own devices. Each of us is given extra assistance from our Heavenly Support Team, which includes God, the angels, loved ones in spirit, past spiritual masters, and spirit guides. They send us signs and messages on a daily basis that can help guide us on our life paths. The key to unlocking the knowledge that is at our disposal is to learn how to recognize and decipher the communications that are being sent from your support team in Heaven. The benefits of receiving this insider advice is almost immeasurable, as it can have far-reaching effects on the positive development of your soul.

Ascension Removes the Veil

When our loved ones ascend to Heaven, knowledge that was obscured from them while on Earth is revealed, giving them a better understanding of the reasons behind their experiences on Earth. They do not become all-knowing, but they do attain greater insight that enables them to see the events on Earth from a more informed perspective. This insight can be utilized to help you navigate your life path if you open yourself to the guidance that is shared by your Heavenly Support Team.

In addition to your loved ones in Heaven, you have seasoned spirit guides and angels that have specific knowledge about your chosen life path. They have access to your Akashic Records, which contain information about your past incarnations, as well as the plans for your current incarnation on Earth. The plans contain the life lessons you have chosen to learn, as well as an outline of certain events that could potentially occur in your lifetime. These events could be major turning points in your soul’s evolution that come as a result of the choices you make about you, your relationships, your thought processes, and your purpose.

In essence, you are never alone (except for the ultra-private moments in which you are given your privacy). There is always a kind and loving spirit nearby who is willing to assist you with your life path. Having an open mind, and a heightened level of awareness about the existence and presence of these spiritual beings, are the first steps you can take toward recognizing and receiving messages from your Heavenly Support Team.

Your Personal Tour Guides for Life

Each day you can receive messages from spirit that are like sign posts directing you toward the best path in your daily life, which also impacts your overall life plan. It is like having extremely knowledgeable tour guides to help you navigate the vast experiences of life on Earth. Because these tour guides are in the energy form of spirit and have advanced communication abilities, they use all our senses to get their messages across to us. The greatest challenge they have in communicating with human beings is the built-in system that purposefully creates obstacles through the illusion of fear. This system is referred to as the human ego. It is the seat of negative thoughts that tell you this cannot be possible, that you will not succeed, or that signs and messages from spirit are just a coincidence. You can teach yourself to break past the negative illusions and thoughts to experience the extraordinary connections with your Heavenly Support Team.

Breaking through the Veil

The mental block that is put in place when we are born, otherwise known as the human ego, is a veil that can be parted through conscious awareness of the existence of life beyond the human experience. The first step to managing the negativity created by the human ego is to recognize when thoughts of failure, dismissal, and self-depreciation enter our minds. Halt those thoughts in their tracks by acknowledging their presence and thinking “STOP” in your mind. Then, replace those thoughts with positive affirmations or beliefs about the topic. For example, if you catch yourself thinking the repeated references you keep seeing about your loved one in Heaven are just a coincidence, say “STOP” in your mind, and replace it with “There are no coincidences. These are signs from my loved one in Heaven.” By opening your mind to the extraordinary possibilities of the universe and trusting that loving spirits do exist on other planes, you can consciously open the communication channel that moves past the ego and delivers specific and helpful guidance for your life path.

Everyone Is Born with the Gift of Mediumship to Some Degree

Everyone is born with the ability to communicate via spirit. It is the way we communicate with God, the angels, our loved ones in spirit, spirit guides, and each other. Our prayers, thoughts, and requests for assistance are sent to God, the angels, and our loved ones using telepathic transmissions from one spirit to another, similar to the way in which wireless signals are sent from one computer to another.

When we communicate with each other on Earth, these signals are being sent back and forth via our spirits; however, it is something that occurs in the background of conscious awareness. When you are speaking with someone, you know in your heart when a person’s words do not sound or feel right. There may be a nagging thought in the back of your mind or a slight clenching of your stomach muscles that may indicate that this person is not speaking his or her truth. This intuitive information comes from your spirit which houses a higher consciousness and understanding of spirit-to-spirit communication.

Even though everyone is born with the gift of mediumship, it does not mean that everyone on Earth is destined to be a spirit medium who shares his or her gifts on a professional level. Just as certain people are born with the ability to excel in sports, others are born with the ability to excel in spirit communication. Your path is unique to you, and if mediumship is your calling, you will know it. If it is not, you can still learn how to use the gift to communicate with your Heavenly Support Team in a way that will benefit you and your loved ones.

A Map to Lead the Way

The benefits of tuning in to the positive messages which come from enlightened beings in Heaven can be equated to being given a map to help you find the most beneficial path to get to your destination, which is the evolvement of your soul through life lessons. Please know that spiritual beings will not give you all the answers or solve all your problems for you. They will sometimes only provide clues or messages to guide you along the way. It is your job as a soul seeking knowledge and learning lessons to make decisions through free will. If you were given all the answers, lessons would not be learned and there would be no point in taking the journey.

Examples of Signs

There are many ways that our Heavenly Support Team sends us messages. It is an abstract form of communication that uses all our senses and goes beyond straightforward verbal and non-verbal cues. Your mind must be open to experiencing and recognizing the extraordinary in the ordinary that surrounds you each day. Here are a few of the more common methods used to transmit messages:

  • Music – Songs you hear in your head or that play on the radio at seemingly coincidental times, are often messages from spirit. Pay attention to the lyrics that you are hearing. If you do not know all the words to the song or the title, look it up. There is a message in it for you about a current event in your life. You could also be hearing music that reminds you of a loved one who has passed away. For instance, my dad loved the band, I often hear “Don’t Stop Believing” in my head or on the radio at times when I need a positive boost. As a note, negative songs and lyrics are not sent from your Heavenly Support Team. They only send positive or helpful messages to help you navigate your life.
  • Visual Clues – When you see an object or image that reminds you of a loved one, it is them letting you know that they are around and that they are sending their love. For instance, one morning I turned on my television and there was a show on about model trains that popped up on the screen. I have no idea what channel I had left the television on the night before, but this was odd because it appeared to be a very old show from the 1960s. I immediately knew this was my dad letting me know that he was around and that he was sending me his love. His major hobby was collecting model trains. There are no coincidences in this world, and many people may have written that off as strange, but if you open your mind, you can learn how to recognize these subtle, and not-so-subtle, messages from spirit.
    • When sending guidance, pay attention to repeated messages that you see or read. Your Heavenly Support Team will place visual items in your path to help provide answers or guidance. Again, there are no coincidences. Pay attention to repetitious messages and signs as they are trying to help you.
  • Feeling a Presence – Some people on Earth have a very strong sense of extrasensory feeling, or clairsentience. They can physically feel the presence of a loved one in spirit. I often feel the presence of my cats who are in Heaven when I lay down to go to sleep. I feel the warmth of their love in the shape of their bodies that they had on Earth. It feels like a living cat has curled up next to me, and it may be accompanied by the feeling of a slight depression in the bed where they are laying. This may sound scary to some who have not experienced it; however, for those of us who have, it is comforting to feel the warmth and affection of loved ones in spirit.
    • When guidance comes through the sense of feeling, you may experience a feeling that something is off with a situation, which may be accompanied by a clenching of your stomach. If it is an uplifting feeling of joy or great hope, you are being given approval to move forward.
  • Scent in the Air – Have you ever picked up on a scent in the air that does not seem to fit in with your surroundings, such as cookies baking in your office or cigar smoke in a non-smoking hotel? Loved ones in spirit alter the molecules in the air to pipe in certain scents that remind you of them. It could be the smell of their perfume or a mechanic’s garage. When you pick up these unusual scents in the air that seem to have no logical source, who is it that you think of? Is it your grandmother who baked great cookies for family gatherings? Is it your father who used to love working on cars and often came home smelling of grease and oil from his mechanic’s garage? The scents are usually strong and distinct, and they may be picked up on by others in your vicinity. That is because the scent is piped into the air when they send this type of message to you.
    • Guidance through the sense of smell can sometimes have unusual connotations. For example, my Heavenly Support Team uses the scent of a skunk to indicate someone is on the defensive. When this occurs, I know how to handle the situation with great care as the person I am talking to may not be able to hear what needs to be said because they are too busy feeling as though they need to defend themselves or that they do not want to be negatively perceived for their decisions.
  • Cravings Out of the Blue – Have you ever had a sudden craving for your deceased mother’s apple pie, a craving so strong that you can taste it in your mouth? This is yet another way that spirit sends messages to us. The way they send this message is like the way they send messages that utilize our sense of smell. They alter the molecules in the air to send energy associated with certain tastes to the sensors in our mouths. This type of message is usually confused with physical cravings for certain foods. It is important when you experience a very strong craving to take a moment to think about whether this is a message being sent from spirit. Do you associate what you are craving with a particular loved one in Heaven? If so, acknowledge the loved one in spirit for their presence and the sign they sent. Know that they are there to support you in your endeavors and want you to know they are there for you.

When you recognize the signs sent by your Heavenly Support Team, be sure to thank them for their efforts. They are always pleased when their transmissions are successful because it means that you are open and paying attention to their loving messages and guidance. You can also ask them for clarity and for more signs to reinforce the direction they would like you to go.

How Soon After Passing Can a Loved One in Spirit Communicate?

When our time on Earth comes to an end, our spirits, also referred to as our souls, make the journey to Heaven. It is the place where we were created and where we return when our soul contracts come to an end on Earth. The bonds we share with those we love continues to exist through the invisible bond that connects all of us with one another. It is also the connection which allows communications to flow from one dimension to another.

As a professional spirit medium, I experience firsthand knowledge from loved ones in spirit every day. The transfer of information is much more complicated than a fireside chat. It is a form of communication that utilizes all my senses to share information between dimensions. It requires heightened awareness of the earthly and extrasensory senses, trust, knowledge of how it works, and energy to be open and receptive to the content sent through images, sounds, feelings, tastes, and smells. Not all the information is straightforward, as those in spirit often use symbols to bring information through. Learning how to properly work through and interpret the meanings takes knowledge and practice to develop expertise.

When Can Divine Communication Take Place?

Many people ask me how soon a loved one in spirit can communicate once they have crossed over. It is possible for those in spirit to communicate right away or within hours of passing. I have experienced immediate communications from both animals and people in spirit. I would like to note that while communication is possible, not every being in spirit is skilled at communicating as soon as they cross over. Some are better at it than others. Older souls, meaning those who have had many reincarnations, have this knowledge stored within the memory banks of their spirit. Therefore, it is easier for them to communicate soon after passing. I have also seen and experienced loved ones in spirit who receive assistance from the delegation of one to three beings in spirit who helped them cross over into Heaven. The delegation usually consists of at least one loved one in spirit who crossed over before them and can include other loved ones in spirit, as well as angels.

Give Yourself and Them Time to Adjust

While loved ones in spirit can communicate right away, it is important to give your deceased loved ones time to adjust to their new reality. It is equally important to allow yourself time to grieve and adjust to the changes in your life caused by the loss of a loved one. People who are in the depths of deep grief need time to heal. When someone in very deep grief reaches out to a spirit medium too soon, they may not be open and receptive to what their loved ones in spirit want to share. Grief and deep sadness tend to block spiritual communications because a person’s main focus is on painful emotions and situations. Often, they only want to hear what they want to hear, instead of what the loved ones in spirit want to share. Think of it this way, when you experience sharp physical pain, it tends to take over your mind and temporarily halt other thoughts. In fact, sometimes all you can think about is how to rid yourself of the physical pain. It is similar with emotional pain that accompanies strong grief in which the hurt of loss blocks out all other thoughts other than how to relieve the heartache.

Healing and the Grief Process

The time it takes for each person to process grief and work through the healing process is unique to each individual. There are many factors that contribute to the effects of grief including, but not limited to, the way someone passed, the depth of the relationship shared, and personal beliefs about what happens to us when we pass. While it is healthy to mourn the passing of a loved one and there is no set time limit on the grieving process, it is not emotionally healthy to dwell in the deepest of grief for extended periods of time. Choosing to remain in a state of perpetual sadness not only blocks you from living the life you are meant to live, but also prevents you from recognizing the signs and messages that loved ones may be sending from the Other Side.

If you need help managing your grief, there are many resources available, such as grief counselors, life coaches, spirit mediums, friends, family, and more. Learning how to manage grief does not mean you do not miss having your loved ones in spirit physically with you on Earth. It is natural to miss the presence of those we love. It is because of our relationships with them that we know and experience love in our lifetimes. I hope you find it as comforting as I do to know they are still in existence in their soul form and that our connection with them continues beyond life on Earth. On an important note, thousands of times loved ones in spirit have come through during readings to express how they want their loved ones here on Earth to continue on with their lives, knowing that they are still connected by the bonds of love with them. Moreover, those in spirit often express how they will help their loved ones on Earth through heavenly insights, signs, and in their roles as voluntary guardian angels for them.

Guidance from the Other Side

Our loved ones in spirit operate from a place of light, love, and expanded knowledge. Their purpose for communicating with you, directly or through a spirit medium, is to bring healing and guidance to your life. A person who has reached a state of acceptance regarding a person’s passing is much more likely to get the most out of their reading with a spirit medium. This is because grief is no longer clouding their ability to be receptive to the information being shared. By being open and receptive, the recipient of the reading is allowing those in spirit to come through the way they want to and share what they want to share.

They Communicate with You!

Your loved ones in spirit use your senses, too, to let you know that they are around. For example, they may place visual images in front of you that remind you of them. My father often uses signs related to firefighters and trains to let me know he is around. In addition, loved ones in spirit may play music in your head to give you answers to your prayers or that reminds you of them. You may also feel their presence, smell their perfume, or have strong taste cravings for the food they used to cook or eat. They orchestrate these wondrous occurrences for you in ways that are challenging for the human mind to comprehend at times. Unfortunately, some people dismiss these occurrences by trying to explain them away as coincidences. Nothing in this world is a coincidence, and it would truly amaze you to be able to comprehend the ways in which spiritual beings on the Other Side not only send signs, but also help us on Earth when they can. They use a tremendous number of ways to get our attention through signs, including appearances in our dreams. When you see them in your dreams, it is your loved ones in spirit trying to help you to overcome your fears, to provide messages of comfort, and to help you to work through issues you are facing.

Love Continues On

The love we share with our loved ones in spirit keeps us connected across dimensions. There is nothing that breaks that bond if we want to maintain it. They enjoy giving us proof of their existence through signs and communications from Heaven, which they are capable of doing almost immediately after crossing over and can continue to do so until we are reunited in Heaven.

When Pets Cross Over into Heaven

Animals, especially our pets, have a special place in many of our hearts. The unconditional love they share with us is a model for how we can love one another. Anyone who has fallen in love with their pet knows they give so much love and gratitude for our companionship and care. When it comes time for them to cross over into Heaven, it is a loss that is felt deeply by all in the household, including other pets.

Surrounded by Loving Beings

When the time comes for our beloved animal companions to cross over to the Other Side, it can be a very emotional and heartbreaking time. It is comforting to know that our pets, just like human beings, are surrounded by spirit guides, loved ones in spirit, and the angels during their transition to Heaven. When my cat, Shadow, passed, I asked the angels to show me his journey in order to share with you what happens when our pets cross over into Heaven.

Divine Guides Help with Their Transition

When Shadow passed, his spirit guides were there to show him the way to Heaven. As with people, the guides are unique to the animal. Each being is born with a spirit guide who remains with them for their time on Earth, and animals are no different. When pets cross over, their personal spirit guide is there, as well as deceased loved ones who knew them or you (people and animals), as well as the angels. The guides are there to inform them that it is time to cross over into Heaven. The pull of love is strong on Earth, especially when deep bonds were formed with their companion family. The guides gently let them know it is time to move on to Heaven, and that they will never truly be separated from their earthly companions because the love they share will keep them connected. They let them know that, once they have crossed, they can visit in spirit with their loved ones on Earth to give them comfort and signs that they are around. Like people, pets can be afraid of being separated from loved ones and the life they knew; however, the spirit guides, loved ones in spirit, and angels bring peace to their hearts and minds, easing their transition.

Time for Orientation

In the same way that people have an orientation to Heaven, animals are also given an introduction and an educational session about Heaven. They learn about their new home, as well as what they can do while they are there, including how they can communicate and help their loved ones on Earth. They are reunited with loved ones who have crossed over before them, including animal parents and siblings, as well as people who knew them and loved them. The angels, guides, and deceased loved ones often volunteer to watch over them as they await the arrival of their companion family on Earth.

Grief Transformed Through Understanding

As with those of us on Earth, our beloved pets do experience some sorrow during their transition to Heaven. It is natural to feel a sense of loss for the life and companions they knew on Earth; however, the grief does not last like it does on Earth because the abundant peace and love of Heaven embraces them. In addition, they are given the gift of knowledge and enlightenment that allows them to better understand the workings of the universe and their role in it. Any pain they felt in life disappears, and they are transformed into younger and healthier versions of themselves. They are free to run and play, make new friends, roll in the softest spring green grass, and curl up in the warmth of the sun with loved ones in spirit.

Visiting Loved Ones on Earth

After their initial period of transition has been completed, your pets in spirit can visit you on Earth. You may catch a glimpse of them out of the corner of your eye or see images that remind you of them, you may feel them curled up next to you on the couch or bed, and you may also hear the joyful sounds they used to make just for you. When animals communicate with me both here and from the Other Side, it is very similar to the way human loved ones in spirit communicate with me. They use all my senses to transmit their messages, and the thought impressions I receive are translated into a spoken language I understand. When they communicate with you, you may receive signs and messages through images, sounds, feelings, smells, and more. It is not a coincidence that the day after Shadow passed a video popped up on one of my social media newsfeeds of a very young kitten holding its own bottle as it was being fed kitten replacement milk. When I adopted Shadow into my heart almost fifteen years ago, he was only two weeks old. Because he was abandoned by his natural mother at such a young age, he needed to be bottle-fed kitten replacement milk. I thought it was adorable how Shadow would hold his kitten-sized bottle with his paws. On an interesting side note, all kittens and puppies are born with brilliant blue eyes, just like human babies. If an extremely young animal comes under your care, you should take it to the veterinarian as soon as possible. They have very special needs, ones that you would not even think about, that need to be immediately addressed.

Love Connection

Our beloved pets and companions leave impressions of their love on our hearts. The relationships we build and nurture on Earth with all beings creates a bond that cannot be broken, even after crossing over into Heaven. Love is the strongest energy in the universe. It is the ultimate power that links each and every one of us together. It is the spark of life that created our souls. When we find others whose spark grows and expands while we are within each other’s company, we know we have found our soulmates, our twin flames, and our spiritual family, both people and animals.
